Support for Custom Inventory Folder Name During Inventory Configuration

You can now provide a custom inventory folder name while configuring the inventory. Earlier, the connector didn’t allow metadata extraction in an existing bucket without the folder named inventory within the destination bucket.

You can provide the inventory bucket name or path in the Provide inventory bucket or path section of the Metadata Extraction tab. (AL-156991)

Support for Volume Check

The volume check feature enables users to make informed decisions by providing insights into the volume of files within each Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) bucket before ingestion into the data catalog. (AL-144291)

Column Extraction Redesign

Alation has introduced a separate tab to run column extraction under the Metadata Extraction tab. This allows file extraction and column extraction to be separated, providing a complete focus on each. (AL-144291)

With Alation version 2023.3.5 and Amazon S3 OCF connector version 3.9.0, Alation has introduced an enhanced user interface for configuring the Amazon S3 data source settings.

Note

The connector version is compatible with Alation versions prior to 2023.3.5. However, you will view the old user interface with Alation versions prior to 2023.3.5.

The Amazon S3 user interface now includes added checks to avoid obvious configuration mistakes. The user interface also includes text to assist and provide cues while configuring.

Detailed Error Reports and Troubleshooting Support

The improved Amazon S3 user interface makes troubleshooting easier for metadata extraction and query log ingestion, as you can now have a detailed error report for both processes. The report contains a detailed error description and steps to resolve the issue.
