The Analytics Stewardship set of features is intended to help catalog stewards evaluate and prioritize curation efforts on data sources and to generate maximum value out of the data catalog.

Analytics Stewardship includes these tools:

  • Stewardship Dashboard—A dashboard designed for monitoring the catalog curation effort. Each report on the Stewardship Dashboard can also be viewed and interacted with independently on its respective page. You can navigate to full reports from the dashboard or from the Curate and Govern landing page. The following reports are available:

    • Curation Progress Report—Weighted measure of completeness of catalog curation, in percent. The report displays the overall progress for each RDBMS metadata level and makes it possible to drill down to details of specific objects. The report is intended to help catalog stewards to monitor and manage curation.

    • Catalog Activity Report—History of modifications to catalog pages and to metadata structure.

    • Data Objects Without Stewards—Number of objects in the catalog with and without stewards. The report also provides a quick way to assign stewards to objects.

  • Titles and Descriptions Report—Number of Titles and Descriptions of catalog objects guessed by Lexicon, confirmed by users, or populated by users manually.

Note

On Alation Cloud Service instances, all of the Analytics Stewardship tools are present in the Classic User Experience; however, only a few of them are available in the New User Experience. Currently, the New User Experience only includes Catalog Activity Report and Curation Progress Report.

The Analytics Stewardship features are available to users with the Server Admin, Catalog Admin, Source Admin, Steward, and Composer roles. The Explorer and Viewer users cannot access these components. See Roles Overview to understand Alation’s user roles.

The Analytics Stewardship features are available by default and don’t require additional actions from a Server Admin to be enabled.

Note

The Analytics Stewardship reports draw data from the Alation internal database. Another governance tool, the Governance Dashboard is powered by the Alation Analytics database. There are differences in how calculations are done on the Stewardship Dashboard and the Governance Dashboard.
