Configure Access to Backups on Amazon S3

Perform this configuration if you prefer to automatically download the backup from Amazon S3 (requires Internet connection for the Sandbox host). Alation recommends using the AWS CLI to configure access to AWS. See Installing, updating, and uninstalling the AWS CLI in AWS documentation for more details.

To configure access to the backup,

  1. On the Sandbox host, go to the Sandbox installation directory alation-sandbox:

    cd opt/alation/alation-sandbox

  2. Run the following AWS CLI command:

    aws configure

This command allows specifying the parameters required to access Amazon S3 from the host:

  • AWS Access Key ID

  • AWS Secret Access Key

  • Default region name

  • Default output format

For example:

[root@ip-10-13-89-12 alation-sandbox]# aws configure
AWS Access Key ID [None]:  AKIAIOSFODNN7EXAMPLE
AWS Secret Access Key [None]: EXAMPLE_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY
Default region name [None]: us-east-1
Default output format [None]: json

After you have configured access to Amazon S3, you can provide the path to the backup file on S3 in the Sandbox configuration file.
