Apply a Standard as a Check

A standard check applies a predefined rule from the Data Quality Standards Library directly to one or more columns while you configure checks on a monitor. Applying a standard saves you from recreating an existing enterprise rule as a one-off check, and it keeps the check aligned with the rule’s approved definition.

Important

A standard check’s metric and threshold are inherited from the standard and cannot be edited. To change the logic, edit the standard in the library instead of the individual check.

Prerequisites

  • The standard you want to apply must already exist and be published in the Standards Library. For more information, see View and Manage Standards.

Apply a Standard While Configuring Checks

You can apply a standard when you create a monitor or when you edit an existing monitor. Both surfaces use the same steps.

To apply a standard to a column:

  1. Navigate to the Configure Checks step when you add a monitor.

    To edit an existing monitor instead, open the Manage tab, then click Checks.

  2. Expand the table attribute you want to add a check to.

  3. Click Add Check.

  4. From the Category dropdown, select Standards.

  5. In the standard picker, search for the standard you want to apply.

  6. Review the standard’s name, category, and description in the picker.

  7. Select the standard.

  8. Select one or more columns to apply the standard to.

  9. Click Save.

    The check’s metric and threshold are pre-populated from the standard and are read-only.

Identify a Standard-Based Check

Checks created from a standard display a Standard pill in the check list. This distinguishes them from checks you created manually or from category-based checks.

  • Hover over the pill to view the name of the source standard.

  • Click the pill to open the standard in the Standards Library.

Note

Checks created from a standard stay linked to the source standard in the Standards Library. Metric and threshold values remain inherited from the standard.
